Characteristics of the Opinel N°8 stainless steel blade knife.

• Blade length : 8.5 cm
• Sandvik Stainless Steel: Sandvik's modified 12C27 stainless steel developed for Opinel is renowned for its sharpness and ease of maintenance. Stainless steel capable of undergoing the heat treatment which gives it its good hardness is called martensitic. It has a carbon content of at least 0.40% which makes it possible to obtain a very satisfactory cutting edge without being susceptible to corrosion.
• Yatagan blade: The traditional Opinel blade is called the Yatagan blade. Its shape is inspired by a Turkish saber, with a raised tip. The blade is ground to an exclusive domed profile which guarantees the robustness of the blade and allows efficient resharpening.
• 11 cm beech handle: Beech is the wood most used for the manufacture of Opinel handles. Coming from French farms, it is hard, resistant and easy to work. With a homogeneous appearance, its light color varies from yellow to pink. It is recognizable by the presence of numerous small dark lines. The handle is varnished to be better protected against humidity and dirt.
• Safety Ring: Invented in 1955 by Marcel Opinel, the Virobloc safety ring is fitted to all closing knives from No. 06 onwards. Cut from stainless steel, the Virobloc is made up of two parts: a fixed part and a sliding part. In addition to locking the blade in the open position (safety of use), it is now possible to lock the blade in the closed position (safety of transport).
