Even the best sleeping bag won't completely insulate you from cold or wet ground, a bivy pad will improve your comfort and insulation, a cotton or silk bag sheet will keep a layer of air between you and the sleeping bag. It will also limit wear and prevent you from getting your sleeping bag dirty. If you go to humid and very cold places, a waterproof over-bag will be welcome.
